GDFB
print, self-initiated
Held every two years in the city centre of Breda (NL), Graphic Design Festival Breda (GDFB) is a great place to meet contemporary creatives from all over the world. During the festival, young talent, established names, current issues and inspiring designs are highlighted in exhibitions, talks, tours and workshops.
A recurring event of the festival is an open call where designers from all over the world are challenged to design a poster about the developments within the work field of typo/graphic design. Out of all the submissions, more than 1200, a professional jury selected only fifty posters. These were shown during the festival as part of an international exhibition in the public space.
Our (winning) submission, ‘Please give me some space’ is about the effect and function of the poster as a medium in the ever changing public space. On the one hand it’s about the struggle for attention but on the other hand demands an active approach or interaction; the spectator has to keep a physical distance to be able to read the text.
